Nimba County, Liberia: The Political Leader of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) and Representative of Nimba County District #7, Musa Hassan Bility, has issued a series of blistering criticisms against the ruling Unity Party, the national legislature, and the Nimba Legislative Caucus, while also alleging that his own benefits as a lawmaker are being withheld.
Speaking Thursday on the popular Radio Kergheamahn Breakfast Show in Ganta, Nimba County, Representative Bility accused the ruling Unity Party of silencing the Movement for Democratic Reconstruction (MDR), once a major opposition party in Liberian politics.
“MDR is no longer active. MDR is dead. Where is MDR? The Unity Party has silenced MDR. Who is the political leader of MDR? I would like to know, as I may consider collaborating with MDR,” Bility declared.
Turning to national issues, the CMC leader expressed outrage over what he described as the government’s weak response to Liberia’s growing drug epidemic. He revealed that the crisis has personally affected his family, with one of his children serving a prison sentence and another undergoing rehabilitation in Kenya.
“The drug crisis is alarming under this government. This government is very careless when it comes to respecting the rule of law,” Bility said.
Representative Bility also criticized the performance of the national legislature, describing it as completely diminished and ineffective since October. He accused lawmakers of failing to hold each other accountable, weakening legislative caucuses across the country.
“The Nimba Legislative Caucus is the most dormant caucus in the entire country,” he Siad.
The outspoken Nimba lawmaker further alleged that he has not received his legislative benefits since the House of Representatives was hit by an impasse earlier this year.
“Since the impasse in the House of Representatives, I have not received my benefits as a Representative. I asked the Speaker last evening regarding my benefits. I believe they have eaten the money. I am giving them a 72-hour ultimatum — otherwise, I will take legal action,” he warned.
Representative Bility’s remarks add to growing tensions within Liberia’s political sphere, as citizens and lawmakers alike continue to scrutinize the government’s handling of accountability, governance, and service delivery at both the national and county levels.
Meanwhile, the ruling Unity Party, the national legislature, and the Nimba Legislative Caucus are yet to respond to the wide-ranging allegations made by Nimba County District #7 Representative, Musa Hassan Bility.
