China’s Shenzhen Mayor Leads High-Level Delegation to Liberia for Strategic Bilateral Talks

Monrovia, Liberia: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially welcomed a high-level 14-member delegation from the People’s Republic of China, headed by Mr. Qin Weizhong, Mayor of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government of Guangdong Province.

The three-day visit aims to strengthen cooperation between Liberia and China across key sectors, including trade, agriculture, and cultural exchange.

Mayor Qin’s visit follows the momentum generated at the China-Liberia Trade and Investment Forum held in Shenzhen in September 2024, on the sidelines of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). The forum was organized by Liberia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its Embassy in Beijing, led by Ambassador D. Mckinley Thomas.

According to the Ministry, the visit marks a significant step forward in implementing Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti’s Asia-focused diplomatic strategy, which seeks to deepen partnerships aligned with the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).

Mayor Qin’s delegation, representing one of China’s most dynamic economic centers, is expected to engage with senior Liberian government officials, participate in high-level business-to-business discussions, and explore investment opportunities across various sectors. Key areas of focus include agro-processing, infrastructure development, cultural collaboration, and youth-centered innovation and entrepreneurship programs.

“The visit is a testament to the growing ties between Liberia and the People’s Republic of China,” the Ministry said in a release. “We are confident this engagement will open new avenues for mutual growth and cooperation.”

While in Liberia, the delegation will tour strategic sites identified for potential investment and partnership, laying the groundwork for increased collaboration and sustainable development.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its appreciation to the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China for their continued friendship and commitment to Liberia’s development goals.
