Dr. Flomo Urges BPSTP Graduates to Strive for Self-Reliance

Bong County Peace and Reconciliation Committee Chairperson, Dr. Mogana S. Flomo,Jr. has encouraged recent graduates of the Baleylabo Professional Skills Training Program to continue striving towards achieving their individual goals rather than solely relying on others.

Speaking as guest speaker at the second cycle graduation ceremony of the institution in Gbarnga, Dr. Flomo said many people often blame others for their failures in life, something he attributed to a lack of self-confidence.

He emphasized that God created everyone uniquely with separate goals to be achieved individually, not by depending entirely on others to determine their destiny.

Dr. Flomo noted that several people have failed in life because they relied too heavily on others to push them forward; a decision that often leads to setbacks when help is not forthcoming.

He encouraged the over sixty graduates to apply the knowledge they acquired to build their lives rather than wait for others to drive their future.

For his part, Mr. Jerry Howard, Chief Executive Officer of the Baleylabo Professional Skills Training Program, expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of interest from county leaders in supporting initiatives that empower citizens.

Mr. Howard revealed that since the establishment of the program in 2018, over 3,000 persons have graduated.

He said he has repeatedly appealed to the county leaders to provide scholarship opportunities for more residents to enroll in vocational training, but to no avail.

According to him, when people are empowered with vocational education, they will not depend on handouts from politicians but will instead work to provide for themselves using the skills acquired.

The Baleylabo Professional Skills Training Program offers four-month courses in Catering, Interior and Event Decoration, Cosmetology, and Makeup of all kinds, among others, currently in Bong and Lofa Counties.
