Liberia Peacebuilding Office, Others Conclude National Youth Engagement in Gbarnga

The Liberia Peacebuilding Office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has concluded a one-day Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) National Engagement with several youth groupings in Gbarnga.

According to Curtis Dabieh, National Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the Peacebuilding Office, the gathering aimed to solicit views from young people on what Liberia should present at the United Nations Security Council following its election as a non-permanent member.

Mr. Dabieh explained that Liberia’s success at the council depends on meaningful recommendations from its citizens rather than leaving decisions solely to the country’s representatives.

He added that inputs from the engagement will be documented and forwarded to the relevant authorities as possible working tools during Liberia’s two-year term on the council.

The YPS National Engagement was supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and brought together participants from Bong, Nimba, and Lofa Counties.

Speaking at the close of the event, Madam Janice Smallwood Malekebu, Consultant and Focal Person on Diaspora Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pledged the Ministry’s full support to advancing the YPS agenda and implementing the National Action Plan on Youth, Peace, and Security (NAP-YPS).

Also speaking, Hon. Bryant McGill, Deputy Minister for Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, commended participants for their willingness to support Liberia’s success at the Security Council and assured them of his Ministry’s commitment to the process.

The YPS National Engagement was held on Monday, September 8, 2025 at Passion Hotel 1 in Gbarnga.
