Bong County, Liberia: The Bong County Technical College (BCTC) has received a brand-new set of Starlink Wi-Fi equipment from Bong County Senator Johnny K. Kpehe, Sr., to enhance internet access for both students and administrators.
Making the donation on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the college’s main campus in Gbarnga, James Kennedy, a technician from the Senator’s office, explained that the initiative is part of Senator Kpehe’s broader effort to expand digital access and improve learning conditions at the institution.
Mr. Kennedy emphasized that as the world rapidly transitions into the digital era, it is crucial for tertiary institutions to have access to reliable internet. He described the donation as a testament to the Senator’s commitment to advancing education in Bong County and helping institutions adapt to digital transformation.
He noted that the equipment would ease the burden on students by enabling them to complete assignments, conduct research, and engage in other academic activities more effectively.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the college, Dr. Alfredson W. Taikerweyah, President of BCTC, expressed heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Senator Kpehe. He described the gesture as both timely and impactful.
“In the past, our students struggled to complete assignments and conduct research on campus due to unreliable internet services. We believe this donation will significantly ease that burden-for both students and the administration,” Dr. Taikerweyah remarked.
He further noted that the donation would reduce the institution’s reliance on internet scratch cards, leading to cost savings and improved connectivity across the campus.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Alfred Kollie, President of the BCTC Student Council, praised the donation as a dream come true.
“This donation shows that the Senator truly cares about digital transformation, the students, and the college,” Kollie stated.
He pledged that students would use the service responsibly, especially for research and academic advancement.
Starlink, a satellite-based internet service developed by SpaceX, is known for providing high-speed internet to remote and underserved areas through a network of low Earth orbit satellites.
Its introduction to BCTC is expected to significantly enhance teaching, learning, and administrative efficiency.
