LDEA Bong Detachment Destroys Illegal Drugs Worth Over L$10.5 Million

Gbarnga, Bong County: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Bong County Detachment has destroyed a large quantity of illegal drugs valued at ten million, five hundred five thousand, five hundred fifty-five Liberian Dollars (L$10,505,555), equivalent to approximately fifty-five thousand two hundred ninety-two United States Dollars and thirty-nine cents (US$55,292.39), confiscated across the county.

According to Deputy Commander Lewis N. Geelar, the substances were seized between June 4, 2024, and June 2025 during various operations in Bong County.

Commander Geelar provided the breakdown of the confiscated drugs as follows:
Kush: 1,145.2 grams, valued at L$4,351,760 or US$22,904
Cocaine: 130.3 grams, valued at L$1,333,800 or US$7,020
Heroin: 260.4 grams, valued at L$2,247,795 or US$11,830.50
Marijuana: 103.8 kilograms, valued at L$10,380,000 or US$1,972,200
Tramadol: 30 packs, valued at L$600,000 or US$3,157.89

Deputy Commander Geelar reaffirmed the LDEA’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse in Bong County and across Liberia.

“We remain robust in the fight against the sale and intake of harmful substances in the county,” he stated.

The burning ceremony took place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, on Taylor’s Farm in Electoral District #3.

The event was witnessed by representatives of the Armed Forces of Liberia, Liberia Immigration Service, Liberia Fire Service, and several local leaders, who commended the LDEA’s strong stance against drug-related crimes.
