UNDP Liberia Chief Pays Courtesy Visit to Mines and Energy Minister, Strengthens Ties for Environmental Sustainability under AAID

Monrovia, Liberia: The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Liberia, Aliou Mamadou Dia, on Tuesday, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Mines and Energy, Wilmot Paye, at the Ministry’s central office on Capitol Hill.

This marks Mr. Dia’s first official engagement with the Ministry since assuming leadership of UNDP in Liberia last year. The meeting focused on deepening strategic collaboration, particularly around the implementation of Pillar #5: Environmental Sustainability of the Government of Liberia’s national development blueprint the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) spearheaded by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.

Minister Paye, who chairs Pillar #5, emphasized the crucial role environmental sustainability plays in the government’s broader development vision. He highlighted the urgent need for cohesive and results-driven partnerships to ensure Liberia’s natural resources are managed in a way that promotes long-term economic prosperity and environmental protection.

UNDP, serving as the Co-lead of Pillar #5, plays a central role in helping the government achieve its environmental goals. Mr. Dia’s visit not only reaffirmed the UN agency’s commitment to Liberia’s development efforts but also set the foundation for enhanced coordination between the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the UNDP team.

The meeting, was a significant step toward aligning efforts between national and international stakeholders to ensure sustainable development practices, improved natural resource governance, and climate resilience in Liberia.

As Liberia accelerates the rollout of the ARREST agenda, the collaboration between the Ministry and the UNDP under Pillar #5 is expected to drive policies and programs that balance development with environmental stewardship ensuring better livelihoods and a greener future for all Liberians.
